Hospice Lazy

Hospice Lazy is a collaboration between Alwynne Pritchard and the Alpaca Ensemble. To work hard is good. To be lazy is bad. Morally, spiritually and socially. It is a dead weight to be jettisoned in our march towards the future. Or could it somehow bail us out? Marcel Duchamp proposed creating a ‘hospice des paresseux’: a place were lazy people could take refuge. With this in mind, Alwynne Pritchard’s Hospice Lazy explores the subversive powers and contradictions of laziness and inertia through music, text, movement and specially constructed orthopaedic devices designed in collaboration with Vigdis Haugtrø and Trøndelag Ortopedisk Verksted.

The piece was premiered at Dokkhuset, Trondheim on the 24th of November, 2014. Concept, music, choreography and video by Alwynne Pritchard. Later performances took place at the Beckett@111 festivals in Freiburg (E-Werk) and Trondheim (Avant Garden) in 2017 and at Studio USF Bergen (in collaboration with nyMusikk and Avgarde) in 2018. The costumes for the 2017 performances were by Aïda Boukenter and were updated for the 2018 performance by Aistė Žumbakytė.
